2-Alarm Apartment Fire in The Greater Uptown Area

WHAT: 2-Alarm apartment fire.

WHEN: September 17, 2023, at 5:55 a.m.

WHERE: 3300 Yorktown St. 77056.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $150,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $500,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (unspecified electrical/mechanical malfunction the attic space).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find heavy smoke coming from a 2-story apartment building. They found a fire on the second floor and began an attack while conducting a primary search, in which four cats were located. A second alarm was requested about 20 minutes into the incident. The utilities were controlled, and the area was marked off to ensure citizens were safely out of the hazard zone. Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading in the attic and continue to rotate crews until the fire was fully extinguished. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents. 81 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including crews from Stations 51, 16, 2, 6, 28, 68, 83, 3, 37, 38, 60, 11, 10, 8, 24, 57, 33, Heavy Rescue 11 and Rehab 8.
