WHAT: 2-Alarm apartment fire.
WHEN: February 4, 2023 at 10:10 a.m.
WHERE: 6727 Telephone Rd. 77061.
INJURIES: One firefighter transported to the hospital.
PROPERTY SAVED: $150,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $600,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (fire near the stovetop caused by unattended cooking).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find heavy smoke coming from the first floor of a 2-story apartment building and made an attack on the fire. A primary search was conducted, and the roof was ventilated. The fire appeared to have spread from the primary unit of the first floor two story apartment and spread to the common attic shared with a 1-story nearby apartment building.
A second alarm was requested, and the fire was extinguished and controlled at about 11 a.m. One firefighter was transported in stable condition to the hospital for burns. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents. Firefighters from Stations 23, 26, 52, 36, 15, 20, 46, 70, 18, 29, 35, 40, 55, 61, 8, 37, 24, 30, 33, Rescue 10 and 42 and Rehab responded to this incident.
