WHAT: Church fire.
WHEN: August 27, 2024, at 11:33 a.m.
WHERE: 7900 block of Park Place Blvd. 77087.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: $60,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental with the fire originating in a void space where recent hot work was done.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke coming from the attic area of a church and made entry with no signs of fire or smoke inside the main floor. Using a thermal imager, crews found hot spots in the roof. They cut holes in the roof and gables to access the attic and extinguish the fire. CenterPoint was requested to secure the utilities. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 34 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 23, 20, 26, 29, 36, 40, 24 and Rehab 25.
