2-Alarm Apartment Fire in The Westchase Area

WHAT: 2-Alarm apartment fire.

WHEN: April 5, 2024, at 8:22 p.m.

WHERE: 2901 Elmside Dr. 77042.

INJURIES: Two civilians transported to the hospital. One deceased civilian found.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.

DAMAGE: $2,720,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Under investigation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find a 2-story apartment on fire and made an offensive attack. A second alarm was requested due to the rapid growth and spread of the fire.  They forced entry to complete a primary search and found a deceased individual. Due to the worsening conditions of the unit, crews removed the body for the medical examiner and attempted to preserve the scene for the investigation. Firefighters switched to a defensive mode and made an aerial attack on the fire with ladder trucks. The fire was controlled and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. Two civilians were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. 90 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 51, 69, 82, 2, 5, 28, 68, 83, 10, 49, 57, 60, 11, 6, 8, 37, 24, 33, Heavy Rescue 11, Rescue 10, Rehab 8 and 17.
