UPDATE: Suspect Charged, Wanted in Assault of Man at 6219 Griggs

Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the assault of a man at 6219 Griggs about 7:20 p.m. on June 27.

The suspect, Erick Rodriguez (H/m, 18), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 179th State District Court.  He is not in custody.

The victim, Victor Fernandez-Lagunas, 28, of the above address, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition with severe burns.

Two photos of suspect Rodriguez, with injuries sustained in the assault, are attached to this news release.  He has a distinctive tattoo on his chest and a scar on his stomach.

HPD Major Assaults Unit Officers R. Naughton and J. Hasley reported:

Officers responded to a report of a male set on fire outside a trailer home at the above address.  Upon arrival, HFD paramedics transported Mr. Fernandez-Lagunas to the hospital with severe burns to his face, chest, arms and stomach.  A possible suspect (Rodriguez), was detained at the scene and transported to the hospital for treatment of burns to his face and chest.

Rodriguez was then interviewed by investigators and released from the hospital pending further investigation.  Fernandez-Lagunas was interviewed after surgery and identified Rodriguez as the suspect.

Charges were subsequently filed on Rodriguez on June 29.
