UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 3938 Caplin Street in Custody

A suspect wanted in the shooting of a man at 3938 Caplin Street about 11:50 a.m. on March 12 is now in custody.

Erick Andrew Cortez, 27, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deadly conduct and felon in possession of a firearm in the 337th State District Court.

The victim, 64, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives B. Godoy and A. Huerta reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and learned a male suspect, later identified as Cortez, arrived at the location and shot a male multiple times.  Cortez then attempted to shoot a juvenile male, however, the weapon malfunctioned and no shots were fired.  Cortez then fled the scene on foot while firing into the air.

Further investigation and tips from the public developed information on Cortez’s whereabouts.  On Tuesday (March 21), Cortez was arrested without incident by members of the HPD North Patrol Division Warrant Execution Team and  transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center.
