UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in May Fatal Shooting at 9545 Ella Lee Lane

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a juvenile male at 9545 Ella Lee Lane about 8:10 p.m. on May 6.

The suspect, Ramiro Hernandez, 17, is charged with capital murder in the 230th State District Court.  A booking photo of Hernandez is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Axel Turcios, 14.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Duncan and Detective L. Lovelace reported:

Axel Turcios was in the parking lot of an apartment complex at the above address when he was approached by two Hispanic male suspects.  One or both suspects fired shots and struck Turcios.  It is believed the suspects then took an item(s) from him.  The suspects fled the scene in a dark Chrysler PT Cruiser and traveled northbound on Tanglewilde Street.

Paramedics transported Turcios to a hospital in critical condition.  Doctors pronounced him deceased the following day.

On May 19, detectives and Axel Turcios’s family members attended a news conference at HPD Headquarters to ask for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s).

Following the news conference, detectives received information that led to the identity of the suspects.  Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Ramiro Hernandez on Thursday (July 7).  He was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.  At this time, Hernandez is the only individual being charged.
