UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in May Fatal Shooting at 6300 Beverly Hill Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 6300 Beverly Hill Street about 2:40 a.m. on May 13.

The suspect, Maleq DeShun Mackmore, 22, is charged with murder in the 228th State District Court.  A booking photo of Mackmore is attached to this news release.

The victim, 22, is identified as Zacchias A. Jackson, 22.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Heaverlo and J. Caten reported:

Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the above address and found a parked vehicle with blood on the front of it.  The vehicle’s owner remained on the scene and told officers the victim and suspect got into an argument that escalated when the suspect shot the victim multiple times.  The suspect then fled the scene on foot.  The victim, later identified as Mr. Jackson, was transported in a private vehicle to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

A preliminary investigation and witness statements identified Maleq Mackmore as a person of interest in the incident. Subsequent investigation led to Mackmore being charged for his involvement in the shooting.  On July 5, Mackmore was arrested at the Memphis International Airport in Memphis Tennessee.  He was returned to Harris County and, last Friday (July 14), Mackmore was booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center.
