| Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 3101 Sage Road about 5:50 p.m. on May 29.
The suspect, Dhevani Mitchell (b/m, 18), is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. A booking photo of Mitchell is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the death of Zachariah Gardner, 21.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives Z. Brumley and C. Vaughn reported:
Mr. Gardner was standing in a hotel parking garage at the above address when a gray-colored Chevrolet Malibu reversed into a parking space and a back passenger rolled down his window and shot Gardner. The shooter and vehicle then fled the scene. Gardner was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Further investigation and evidence obtained identified Mitchell as the suspect in this case. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and, on July 7, a murder warrant was issued for Mitchell. He was taken into custody in California .
Mitchell was out on three felony bonds at the time of the shooting.
