UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 302 West 23rd Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 302 West 23rd Street about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (March 4).

The suspect, Jason Allen Griffin (w/m, 39), is charged with felon in possession of a weapon, manslaughter, and unlawful possession of body armor in the 184th State District Court.

A prior booking photo of Griffin, who remains hospitalized, is attached to this news release.

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives R. Pemberton and S. Spivey reported:

The victim and Griffin were attending a party at a residence at the above address when the victim put on a bullet proof vest.  At some point, Griffin shot the victim in the chest and then fled the scene.  Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

Griffin was located at an area hospital where he is being treated for a medical issue.  At this time, he is in custody while at the hospital.
