UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2020 Fatal Shooting at 6150 West Tidwell Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a juvenile male at 6150 West Tidwell Road about 8 p.m. on November 24, 2020.

The suspect, Christian Steward (b/m, 21), is charged with aggravated robbery in the 228th State District Court for his role in the killing of Jayshawn Burrell, 14.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Clark and M. Nicotra reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found the victim, Mr. Burrell, lying in the parking lot unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him deceased.

According to witnesses, Burrell got into a verbal altercation with an adult male suspect.  The argument escalated and multiple shots were fired at Burrell and another male, who was not struck.

The suspect was seen getting into a silver sedan and fleeing from the location.  Paramedics were called and pronounced Burrell deceased at the scene.

Further investigation led to the identity of Steward as a suspect in this case and he was charged on February 9.  Officers with the North Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team arrested Steward on March 8 without incident.
