Update: Investigation into Deceased Suspect in Fatal Shooting at 7518 Imogene Street

Houston police are investigating the apparent suicide of a murder suspect at 6000 Alder Drive about 9:30 a.m. today (September 9).

The suspect apparently shot himself as officers were attempting to arrest him in the fatal shooting of two adults and two juveniles found at 7518 Imogene Street about 8:45 a.m. on Sunday (September 5).

The suspect, William Escano Yah, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victims are identified as Jairo Escano Martinez, 37, Elvira Del Carmen Yah Aviles, 46, a 12-year-old female and a 10-year-old male.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detectives D. Higgs, A. Vinogradov and N. Sharp reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to the residence at Imogene Street after Houston Fire Department emergency personnel extinguished a fire and found two adult victims and two juvenile victims inside the residence. All of the victims appeared to have been fatally shot.

Further investigation identified William Escano Yah as a suspect in this case and, about 8:30 a.m. today, he was found on Alder Drive inside the victims’ stolen vehicle. Yah shot himself as officers approached and gave him verbal commands.

Yah was found to be related to the victims. At this time, officers do not believe there were other suspects involved in the shooting on Imogene Street.
