The suspects, Jasmine Thomas (b/f, 27) and Regina Banks (b/f, 46), are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 208th State District Court.

The victim, Tonita Brooks, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults Unit Sergeant J. Dodson and Officers A. Ferrell and Ana Hernandez reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at the above address and found HFD paramedics providing medical assistance to Ms. Brooks.  An initial investigation determined she had been struck with a hammer.  Brooks was then transported to the hospital.

Further investigation determined two female suspects (Banks and Thomas) got into an argument with Brook and then assaulted her.  Brooks' mother witnessed the assault and, armed with a hammer, went to help her daughter.  The suspects managed to disarm the mother and struck Brooks with the hammer several times.  Both suspects were detained at the scene and subsequently charged.
