Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 9826 Trumpet Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a shooting incident at 9826 Trumpet Street about 4:25 p.m. on Saturday (June 12).

The suspect, Michael Derrell Jones (b/m, 40), is charged with burglary of a habitation in the 232nd State District Court.  Jones suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.  A booking photo of Jones is attached to this news release.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers L. Castellanos and H. Martinez reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a disturbance at a residence at the above address and found Houston Fire Department paramedics treating Jones for a gunshot wound.  Jones was then transported to the hospital where he was treated and then taken to jail.

The homeowner told officers he shot a burglary suspect (Jones) who tried to break into his residence.

Further investigation determined the homeowner and his wife confronted Jones on the street and Jones was shot as he tried to strangle the wife.  Jones was subsequently charged for his role in the incident.
