Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a juvenile male and a woman at 9050 Mills Road about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday (April 14).

The suspect, Derrick Dewayne Gray (b/m, 18), is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 176th State District Court.  A booking photo of Gray is attached to this news release.

The male victim, 16, and the female victim, Angela Grey, 37, were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives A. Hernandez and A. Ferrell reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a verbal altercation, which later became a shooting at a hotel at the above address.  The suspect was attending a birthday party at the hotel when he got into an argument with a juvenile male.  The adults present asked the suspect to leave.  He stated he did not have to leave and wanted to fight in the parking lot.  An adult male stated the suspect kept making movements as if he had a firearm.  The adult male, Ms. Grey and the juvenile male then walked away from the suspect to re-enter the hotel.  As the suspect drove away in his vehicle, he fired multiple shots.  Ms. Grey was struck in the right knee.  The juvenile victim was struck in the right leg.  Paramedics transported both victims to the hospital.  The adult male was not injured.

Further investigation identified Derrick Gray as the suspect in this case and he was taken into custody on Monday (April 15) without incident.
