Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 5971 Doolittle Boulevard

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 5971 Doolittle Boulevard about 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday (March 3).

The suspect, Michael Alexander Torres (b/m, 49), is charged with aggravated assault of a family member in the 174th State District Court.  A booking photo of Torres is attached to this news release.

The victim, Davon Gaston, 42, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officer J. De La Torre reported:

Torres and a female companion drove to the residence at the above address so the female could pick up some of her personal property.  They were greeted by Mr. Gaston, who was in a dating relationship with the female.  At some point, Gaston picked up a brick and threw it at the windshield of Torres’ vehicle.  Torres then pulled out a pistol and fired several shots at Gaston, striking him in the chest.

Paramedics transported Gaston to an area hospital where he underwent surgery.  Torres was detained and subsequently charged in the incident.

Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800.
