Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 307 Neyland

Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the shooting of a woman that occurred at 307 Neyland about 2 p.m. on Wednesday (July 31).

The suspect, James Polo Magana-Washington (b/m, 21) is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 262nd State District Court. A photo of Magana-Washington is attached to this news release.

He is accused of shooting Violeta Torres, 65, of the above address.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officer A. Le reported:

Ms. Torres was asleep in her room at the above address when she was awakened by gun shots fired into her home. Torres is paralyzed from the waist down and thus did not feel when she was shot in her leg but did see that she was bleeding. Magana-Washington then spoke with Torres before he fled the scene on foot. Magana-Washington was arrested a short time later following a brief foot pursuit with officers.
