Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the assault of a man at 2303 West Tidwell Road about 9:15 p.m. on Thursday (May 28).

The male suspect, 13, has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation Department authorities on charges of aggravated assault of a family member and reckless deadly conduct.

The male victim, 40, was transported to an area hospital with minor lacerations and trauma.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Sergeant T. Richardson and Officer A. Graf reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an apartment complex at the above address and were advised the juvenile suspect got into a physical altercation with a family member and pistol-whipped him.  As they were conducting an investigation, the suspect returned and fired multiple shots into the air a short distance from where officers were speaking with the relative.

The suspect then evaded police on foot while recklessly discharging the handgun in the air.  At least two bullets struck a neighboring apartment occupied by an adult female and six juveniles.  None of them was injured.  Officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.
