Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 13270 Northwest Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 13270 Northwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 290) service road about 2 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 18).

The suspect, Darius Sims (b/m, 27), is charged with murder in the 177th State District Court.  A booking photo of Sims is attached to this news release.

The victim, Daniel Thompson, 19, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Fregia and D. Higgs reported:

Sims and Mr. Thompson got into an altercation in the parking lot of a business at the above address that escalated when Sims fatally shot Thompson.  When Sims fired shots at one of Thompson’s male family members, the family member returned fire and struck Sims in the leg.

Sims fled the scene, but was later located at a hospital.  He was treated, released and then transported to jail.
