Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman and a juvenile male found at 11150 Cayman Mist Drive about 11 a.m. on Tuesday (March 2).
The suspect, Derrick Hayes (b/m, 35), is charged with capital murder, aggravated assault of a family member and felon in possession of a weapon in the 262nd State District Court. A booking photo of Hayes is attached to this news release.
The female victim is identified as Carmen Hayes, 71, and the male victim as Bryce Alexander, 15.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Brown and M. Condon reported:
Investigators responded to a double homicide scene at a residence at the above address and were advised by family members that the suspect, Hayes, was missing from the house and possibly armed.
When the family located Hayes and attempted to detain him, Hayes tried to shoot his uncle, but did not strike him.
Investigators questioned Hayes and he was subsequently arrested and charged with three felonies in this family violence case.
