Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 8100 North Main Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 8100 North Main Street that occurred about 4:50 p.m. last Friday (April 23).

The suspect, Jorge Garcia (H/m, 24), is charged with two counts of manslaughter in the 263rd State District Court.  A booking photo of Garcia, who remains hospitalized, is not available for release at this time.

The identities of the two deceased victims – a woman, 58, and a man, 68 – are pending notification to their family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer W. Smith reported:

Garcia was driving a silver Nissan Altima at a high rate of speed northbound at the above address when he struck a gold Ford F-150 pickup truck as it left a stop sign at the intersection of of North Main and East 40th 1/2 Street.  The Ford pickup truck caught fire and the female passenger was trapped inside the truck.  She was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The male driver of the Ford was able to get out of the vehicle.  Paramedics transported him to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Garcia was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  He did not show visible signs of intoxication at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
