Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 7400 South Sam Houston Parkway East

Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal crash that occurred at 7400 South Sam Houston Parkway East about 1:35 p.m. on Friday (October 9).

Misty Shalon Bazan (w/f, 39) is charged with felony murder in the 339th State District Court. A photo of Bazan is not available at this time.

The identity of the male victim, 33, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer E. Clark reported:

Bazan, driving a silver BMW 330, exited the South Sam Houston Pkwy East at Telephone Rd and struck a white Honda CRV, a black Chevrolet Malibu and a green Porsche Cayenne. The drivers of the three vehicles were waiting at the red light. The Honda and Chevrolet were going eastbound with the Honda behind the Chevrolet. The Porsche was in the left turn lane waiting to go northbound on Telephone Road.

After striking the three vehicles at the light, the BMW continued through the intersection and struck a black Toyota Camry, which had been traveling northbound on Telephone Road and had just made a right turn to go eastbound on the Sam Houston Parkway service road. The Toyota spun and is believed to have struck the rear of the trailer of an 18-wheeler that had also just turned onto the eastbound service road.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the driver of the Toyota deceased at the scene. The driver of the BMW, suspect Bazan, was transported to Southeast Memorial Hermann Hospital.

It was determined Bazan was under the influence of narcotics and was charged for her role in the crash.
