Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 6100 Griggs Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal crash that occurred at 6100 Griggs Road about 7 p.m. on Sunday (January 31).

The suspect, David Espinosa (H/m, 18), is charged with manslaughter in the 209th State District Court. A booking photo of Espinosa is attached to this news release.

The male victim, 17, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Jewell and Officer J. Leon reported:

Espinosa was driving a black Lincoln LS eastbound on Griggs at a high rate of speed when the vehicle veered to the side of the road, drove onto the concrete median and struck a tree on the passenger side. The victim, sitting in the passenger seat, was transported to the hospital where he later died. Espinosa also had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he was treated and released and then taken into custody.
