Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 10900 Mykawa Road

Charges have been filed against suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 10900 Mykawa Road that occurred about 12:25 a.m. on Saturday (February 19).  

The suspect, Daniel Martinez, 22, is charged with failure to stop and render aid accident involving death in the 185th State District Court.  A booking photo of Martinez is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 56, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Hroch and Officer J. Bibb reported:

The victim was on a bicycle and traveling northbound on Mykawa when he was approached from behind by a black Jeep Patriot, also traveling northbound on Mykawa at the above address  The Jeep struck the bicyclist, drug the bicyclist a short distance and was then knocked to the ground.  The driver of the Jeep did not stop to provide medical assistance and left the scene.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

As detectives conducted the investigation, the driver of the Jeep, later identified as Martinez, called 9-1-1 and stated he he believed he struck a deer or a person in the area of the crash.  HPD Hit and Run Unit officers met with Martinez at his residence and took him into custody without incident.  Martinez was subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
