Sexual Assault Suspect Arrested, Other Victim’s Sought

A suspect wanted and charged in a a sexual assault of a child investigation has been arrested in Boise City, Idaho.

The suspect, Lee Smith III (b/m, 29), is charged with sexual assault of a child in the 248th State District Court.  He was arrested on Sunday (October 14) by officers with the Boise City Police Department and remains in custody in the Ada County Jail, awaiting extradition to Houston.

Smith is accused of sexually assaulting two juveniles, 15 and 6, in the 13100 block of Northborough Drive on August 1, 2017.  An investigation by the HPD Special Victim's Division Child Sexual Abuse Unit led to the identification of Smith as the suspect in this case.  He was last seen in a silver Mercedes sedan, however, efforts to locate Smith in the Houston area were unsuccessful.

On October 14, at about 9:30 a.m., Boise City police officers reported seeing a silver Mercedes Benz with a flat tire in a parking lot behind 2601 North Bogus Basin Road with a male seated in the driver's seat. Boise PD officers identified the male as suspect Smith and confirmed he was wanted out of Houston.  He was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators believe there may be other victims and are asking anyone with information to contact the HPD Special Victim's Division at 713-308-1100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

At 2 p.m. TODAY (Thursday, October 18), investigators in the HPD Special Victim's Division, Child Sex Abuse Unit will be available to answer questions regarding this case in the first floor Media Briefing Room of the HPD Edward A. Thomas Building at 1200 Travis.
