Media Information on Senior Police Officer John Wilbanks Funeral Plans

Media partners covering the visitation and funeral services of fallen Houston Police Department Senior Police Officer John Wilbanks are advised of the following initial information:

There will not be a public visitation.

The funeral service will take place on Monday (October 18) at 10 a.m. at Grace Church Houston at 14505 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45).

Monday morning, Officer Wilbanks’ body will be escorted from the Peevey Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, to Grace Church Houston.  HPD will provide details on the departure and arrival times and the escort route once finalized.

The public is welcome to attend.  However, due to COVID-19 protocols, seating is limited.  Family, friends, HPD staff, and those who knew Officer Wilbanks will be seated first.

Following the funeral service, full police honors will be rendered outside the church.

HPD will live-stream the service and the rendering of honors on its social media platforms.  Members of the public who wish to honor Senior Police Officer Wilbanks are strongly encouraged to use HPD’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) and local news coverage to view the services.

Media coverage details and logistics will be forthcoming upon finalization.

There are no burial services currently planned, although they will likely remain private.

PIO Victor Senties is the point of contact for media inquiries concerning coverage logistics.
