Investigation into Incident at 500 Greens Road

Houston police have arrested a suspect following an incident in which an HPD officer discharged his weapon at 500 Greens Road about 1:40 p.m. on Saturday (April 11).

The suspect, Brandon Turner (b/m, 34), is charged with felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance in the 179th State District Court.  A booking photo of Turner is attached to this news release.

Officer L. Castillo, assigned to the North Belt Patrol Division, was not injured in this incident.  He was sworn in as an officer in January of 2009.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Hekimian and Investigators J. Snook and N. Arellano reported:

Officers responded to a call of a suspicious person with a weapon at an apartment complex at 400 Greens Road.  Upon arrival, officers were told that a black male with a gun was beating on an apartment door.  Officers were given a description of the suspect, later identified as Turner, and a last known direction of travel.

Officer Castillo located Turner walking in front of a park adjacent to the apartment complex at 500 Greens Road.  Officer Castillo attempted to give the suspect numerous commands to get on the ground, which Turner ignored.  Turner then reached into his front waistband and produced a hand gun.  The officer, fearing for his life, discharged his duty weapon.  Turner, who  was not struck, kept running.  Officer Castillo continued to chase after Turner and gave him repeated verbal commands.  Officer Castillo, again, in fear of his life, fired another shot at Turner, which also missed.

A second officer arrived on scene and Turner was taken into custody without further incident.  Turner was found to be in possession of narcotics and a stolen hand gun.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and the HPD Internal Affairs Division.
