Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 5006 North Freeway

The fatal shooting of a man at 5006 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road about 12:55 a.m. today (April 14) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The deceased male is identified as Michael D. Simmons, 36.

The male shooter, 51, was not injured in the incident.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives T. Andrade and M. Perez reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found a man down in the parking lot and a male sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle near the male on the ground.  The male in the vehicle was detained.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male on the ground deceased.

A preliminary investigation indicated the two men got into an argument over a parking space.  During the argument, one of the men, later identified as Mr. Simmons, walked away and went to his vehicle.  Simmons then returned with his hand in his waistband and again confronted the other male, getting closer to him.  Fearing for his life, the male pulled his weapon and shot Simmons.

The facts were presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which advised the incident would be referred to a grand jury.
