Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 6600 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday (October 3).
The identity of the female victim, 47, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer Z. Radcliff reported:
The victim was walking across the mainlanes of the Gulf Freeway when a citizen witnessed this and immediately stopped on the freeway. The citizen’s vehicle was then struck by three other vehicles, but none of these vehicles struck the pedestrian. However, during the time, the pedestrian was struck by at least more than one vehicle. Only one vehicle stopped, a blue Chevrolet Avalanche, and the driver provided his information to officers.
The victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased early the next morning.
The investigation is continuing.
