Investigation into Fatal Crash at 6500 Gulf Freeway

Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 6500 Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 11:40 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 19).

A male, who is not charged in the crash, was arrested at the scene.  Miguel Guachiac-Tambriz, 36, is charged with driving while intoxicated-first offense in Harris County Criminal Court #11. Guachiac-Tambriz’s booking photo is attached to this news release.

The identity of a deceased male pedestrian is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Le and Officer K. Hines reported:

Guachiac-Tambriz was driving a white Nissan Murano southbound on the Gulf Freeway when a pedestrian (deceased male) was struck by the vehicle.  Multiple witnesses observed the male attempting to cross the roadway.  A black Hyundai Sonata then struck the male and rear-ended the Murano.  The male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Further investigation found the Guachiac-Tambriz was intoxicated and he was arrested and charged for driving while intoxicated.  The investigation into the fatal crash remains on-going.
