Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 2300 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 1:05 p.m. on Saturday (June 15).
The identity of the female victim, 56, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Northeast Patrol Division Officers reported:
The victim was driving a black Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck northbound on the Eastex Freeway when her vehicle was struck from behind by a gray BMW 5 Series sedan. The pickup truck then struck a brown Volkswagen Jetta.
Paramedics transported the driver of the pickup truck to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. She was pronounced deceased at the hospital on Monday (June 17).
The male driver of the BMW sustained an injury to his hand and was transported to an area hospital. The female driver of the Volkswagen was not injured.
No charges have been filed in the crash, pending further investigation.
