Investigation into Fatal Crash at 16600 Eastex Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 16600 Eastex Freeway (U.S. 59 North) about 10:35 p.m. on Saturday (October 13).

The identity of the deceased male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer J. Hill reported:

A witness stated the victim was driving a van, possibly the wrong way on an Eastex Freeway ramp and then the wrong way on the freeway’s service road.  The van went off the roadway and crashed into a wooded area.  At that time, it appears the victim exited the van and attempted to run across the northbound main lanes of the freeway.  He was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid.  Two other vehicles then struck the victim.  Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.  The two drivers stopped, were determined not to be impaired and released without charges.

Anyone with information on the wanted driver of the vehicle that initially struck the victim is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4065.
