Investigation into Fatal Crash at 11400 Highway 90

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 11400 Highway 90 about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday (September 25).

The incident involved a tractor-trailer so alarm was immediately raised as truck accidents are often far more serious than normal car accidents. Trucks are so large and take so long to stop that pickups and cars can be completely totaled by them.

The male, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant. D. Griffiths and Officer J. Best reported:

The male was driving a gray BMW sedan westbound on Wallisville when he struck a tractor trailer truck at the Highway 90 intersection. He then got out of his vehicle, leaving behind his two children, and fled onto the northeast lanes of Highway 90 where he was struck by a silver Nissan Altima. He then climbed the barrier and ran into the southwest lanes where he was struck by a blue GMC Terrain. The drivers of both the Nissan and GMC remained at the scene and were questioned and released without charges.

The two children, a boy age 5 and girl age 4, were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The girl suffered injuries. The boy did not appear to suffer significant injuries. Neither were in booster seats.

The investigation is continuing.
