The Houston Fire Department deploys two special purpose Hazardous Material Response vehicles.

This pair of Special Purpose Hazardous Material Response Vehicles were designated to the Houston Fire Departments Type 1 Hazmat Team. They will be used to transport critical resources and provide capabilities to the scene in preventing, protecting against, and responding to an attack in the Port of Houston/Houston Ship Channel Industrial complex.

They are equipped with towing capabilities to transport needed supplies, extra foam, and provide decontamination capabilities on scene. They are also metered for extra detection capabilities, to be used in the detection, location, identification, and mitigation of improvised explosive devices (IED) and chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high yield explosives (CBRNE) warfare agents.

They will be assigned to Hazmat staff personnel and housed at Houston Fire Station 22 (Hazmat) during business hours, but will be accessible 24/7, should the need arise.

A special thanks to Grants Manager Kimberly D. House, City of Houston and the Mayor's Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security.
