A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 9437 Merle Street about 8:30 p.m. on September 22 is in custody.

The suspect, Jamie Amaad West (b/m, 32), is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court.  A previous photo of West, courtesy of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, is attached to this news release.

The victim, Derrick D. Moore, 30, of Houston, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Dominguez, Officer B. Roberts and Detectives M. Waters II and M. Condon reported:

Mr. Moore was involved in an altercation with his neighbor over a vehicle parked in the street.  A short time after the altercation, Moore was shot by an unknown black male who fled the scene in a grey four-door sedan.

Further investigation led to the identification of West as the shooter in this case.  He is a known associate of the neighbor involved in the initial argument.  He was last seen driving a brown four-door Toyota Corolla.

On Monday (Nov. 20), members of a U.S. Marshals task force arrested West in San Antonio.
