UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 2500 Sampson

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of two women at 2500 Sampson about 5:50 a.m. on March 1.

The suspect, Cortney Antrell Byrd (b/m, 28), is charged with capital murder in the 184th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Marqueis Deshawn Rutherford, 29.  The two female victims, Angelica J. Valentine, 24, and Andrinna Boudreaux, 21, were transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Murdock and Detectives H. Hay, T. Colbert and R. Ridel reported:

Mr. Rutherford and Mses Valentine and Boudreaux were in their motel room at the above address when they heard a knock at the door.  Rutherford opened the door and was shot by an unknown suspect.  Valentine and Boudreaux were also wounded  by the gunfire.

Further investigation identified Byrd as the suspect in this case.  He was taken into custody on Wednesday (April 4) without incident.
