Houston Parks and Recreation Department Opens Park Facilities and Community Centers

This weekend the parks department reopened the following golf courses and venues at Hermann Park and Memorial Park.

    • Memorial Park Golf Course
    • Glenbrook Park Golf Course
    • Sharpstown Park Golf Course
    • Hermann Park Golf (operated by BSL for HPARD)
  • Hermann Park
    • The Houston Zoo
    • The McGovern Centennial Gardens & Cheri Flores Garden
    • The Houston Museum of Natural Science
    • The Lake Plaza area including the Cafe and plaza food concessions, Hermann Park Mini- train and Pedal Boats
    • The Japanese Garden
  • Memorial Park
    • Running Trails
    • Cullen Running Trails Center
    • The Picnic Loop area remains closed

On Tuesday, September 5th, all Community Centers, two Tennis Centers, the Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark and youth meal programs at select sites will open.

September 5, 2017

  • Community Centers – All Community Centers, except for Kendall Community Center, will open at 12:00 noon. All gymnasiums will open at 1:00 p.m.
  • Tennis Centers
    • Homer Ford Tennis Center
    • Memorial Park Tennis Center
  • After School Meal Program
    • Approximately 52 Community Center locations will provide after-school meal service (Kendall Community Center and River Oaks Community Center are not After School Meal Program sites)
  • Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark
    • Will open on its regular schedule

The following programs and/or facilities are closed for continued assessment and cleanup needs.

  • Lake Houston Wilderness Park – All reservations are canceled through September 30, 2017.
  • Cullen Park – All permits are canceled through October 31, 2017
  • Adult Sports and Ballfields – are closed until after September 16, 2017 or until further notice depending on field condition.
  • Kendall Community Center – is closed until further notice.
  • Lee LeClear Tennis Center – is closed until further notice
